Planning for the Moose 2021 Season

Dear Moosilauke Families and Friends,

Given our significant experience helping to successfully open The Thacher School with students from around the world in Fall 2020, and our insights into current and developing best practices in the residential camp world, we are confident we will be able to run a safe, fun, and rewarding experience during Summer 2021. In other words, after a once in a 116-year summer off, Moose is back for Summer 2021!

We are hoping to offer our traditional session options this summer as outlined on the Enrolling/Attending page of our website. We are also working hard to ensure that the experience we offer provides all the key elements of what makes Moose, Moose, including: positive risk taking and fun via athletics, outdoor adventure, and the waterfront; a balance of structure and choice relative to camper activities; and an intimate, caring, and supportive culture. Finally, we are also hard at work finalizing the specific requirements, procedures and protocols we will put in place all aimed at creating a healthy and safe experience.

Because the pandemic situation remains fluid, however, we are also aware that modifications may need to be made to everything from session options, to health and safety protocols, to trip and competition offerings. Please know we will communicate on a regular basis, so everyone has full information about the specifics for the summer before campers arrive on campus, and we will work with each family individually if any of the potential changes cause a family to need to rethink their enrollment.

Please know that we are monitoring the fluid landscape with a realistic and thoughtful eye and are tapping into a wide range of experts and expertise as we do our planning, including national authorities on the pandemic, independent school experts, state and federal officials, a consortium of local camp directors who meets regularly, and all relevant guidelines provided by The CDC, The American Camping association, and the NH Camp Directors’ Association.

Finally, please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions.
